Plastic Injection Molding

Diamond Plastics begins the plastic injection molding process with raw polymer resin granules that are heated and melted into a malleable state and then forced or injected into a mold, where the plastic fills the mold and takes the desired shape. Depending on the raw polymers, varying levels of heat and pressure are used to to create the end product.

Plastic injection molding is considered to be highly versatile, as it can be used to create a variety of parts, ranging in both size and shape. Injection molding basic principles are fairly simple, but the actual process can be quite complex when it comes to maintaining part consistency.

All of the Diamond Plastics injection molding products are made using the following process:

• Polymer resin granules or pellets enter the machine.
• Carefully controlled heat melts the granules mixing colors or materials as needed.
• Depending on the volume of the mold, the shot size of material to be injected into each mold is carefully measured.
• The mold is clamped tightly closed.
• The shot of melted plastic or polymer is injected using precise force, inside the mold cavity.
• The material cools and to the target temperature.
• The mold opens and the part is ejected.
• The part undergoes a preliminary visual inspection, as the machine preps for the next run.
